Naturally rich soil, improved by crop rotation & annual cover crops such as
rye, oats, peas and clover, tilled back into the soil. Aged horse & cow manure for high feeding crops.

Pests:
Isolated from other commercial farms, cold winters, crop rotation, timing, row netting, hand removal.
Potatoes need to be rotated over at least 5 years in each spot to avoid fungal issues in
the soil.
Carrots and rutabagas are planted later to avoid root maggot and carrot rust fly.
Early greens covered with row netting to keep flea beetles off.
Cabbage moth worms big problem, usually hand picked off, but hard to manage 2022; may try Organic-approved biological controls 2023.
Voles in the carrots and beets a big problem 2022; cats? snakes?
